The Mission.
In 2016, a group of local Minerva residents wondered what it would look like to live as local missionaries right in their own hometown.
They knew they wanted to focus on the needs of children and their families in the Minerva Local
school district. Through partnerships with the school, a variety of local churches, and local
businesses, Minerva Mission grew to include a diverse group of volunteers and mentors.
Minerva Mission brings together people who are passionate about making a difference- giving
back to a community that they’ve been a part of for years.

Backpack Program
The Minerva Mission Backpack Program provides consistent weekend support for students who may otherwise face food insecurity or lack access to basic essentials outside the school week. Each backpack is filled with easy-to-prepare food items, hygiene products, and other age-appropriate necessities designed to help children return to school on Monday ready to learn. By partnering with teachers, counselors, and families, this program identifies students quietly and respectfully, ensuring that help is given in a way that protects dignity and removes barriers for families in need.
Beyond meeting immediate needs, the Backpack Program reflects Minerva Mission’s larger commitment to caring for the whole child. By reducing stress at home, students are better able to focus, participate, and thrive in the classroom. Community donations and volunteer support make this effort possible, creating a dependable safety net for local children and reinforcing the message that Minerva Minerva stands with students and families—not just during school hours, but every day of the week.
Care Closet
The Minerva Mission Care Closet provides students with immediate access to essential items such as clothing, hygiene products, school supplies, and other basic needs to help remove obstacles that can impact learning and well-being. Working closely with school staff, the Care Closet ensures that support is offered discreetly and respectfully, allowing students to receive what they need without stigma. By meeting these practical needs quickly and compassionately, the program helps foster confidence, stability, and a stronger sense of belonging for every child it serves.
Mentoring Club
Minerva Mission’s Mentoring Program (often called the “Mentoring Club”) pairs younger students with older peers who excel academically, athletically, or musically. Through one-on-one mentoring relationships, the program offers guidance, support, and encouragement — helping mentees build confidence, improve academically or socially, and find positive role models among their peers.
Beyond academic help, the Mentoring Program fosters community, leadership, and personal growth. By giving older students the opportunity to mentor younger ones, Minerva Mission strengthens bonds within the school community, encourages responsibility and compassion in mentors, and builds a supportive environment where every child can thrive.
Camps
Camp Elkhorn Trip
Camp Elkhorn offers Minerva Mission students in grades 5–8 a meaningful opportunity to step outside their daily routines and experience a week of growth, fellowship, faith, and adventure in a traditional camp setting. This experience brings students together for outdoor activities, shared challenges, and community-building moments that encourage confidence, independence, and lasting friendships. Camp Elkhorn is designed to be both fun and formative, giving students space to connect with one another and deepen their sense of belonging in a supportive environment.
“Summer Is Better Together” Camp
The “Summer Is Better Together” camp is a vibrant, week-long program that focuses on connection, enrichment, and joy during the summer months. Through group outings, learning experiences, and shared activities, students build strong relationships while engaging in fun, structured days designed to foster teamwork and encouragement. This local camp emphasizes togetherness and community, creating a welcoming space where students can grow socially, strengthen friendships, and enjoy a summer experience centered on support and belonging.
